Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the summer camp in Taipei?

Our Taipei summer camp takes place in Da’an district, right in the heart of Taipei city.

What if I want to study simplified Mandarin?

We offer summer camps in China too – Beijing, Shanghai and the coastal city of Beihai.

In all these schools, we teacher simplified Mandarin.

My child has never studied Chinese. Is that a problem?

It’s the norm, not the exception.

Most of our Taipei campers start from zero, and beginners are placed together so nobody feels behind.

People in Taipei are famously encouraging with learners too, so first attempts at ordering in Mandarin are met with smiles and patience rather than blank stares.

Will studying traditional characters confuse my child later?

Not at all, and many linguists argue starting with traditional characters makes simplified ones easier later, as the logic of each character is more visible.

Speaking, listening and pinyin are identical across both systems, so a Taipei summer camp experience builds Mandarin that works everywhere Chinese is spoken.

Will I study traditional Chinese at the Taipei summer camp?

That’s correct.

Taipei uses traditional Chinese characters whilst the mainland uses simplified.

Spoken Mandarin is the same, so skills transfer completely.

What will my kid(s) actually do all day?

Mornings are for Mandarin, taught in small groups sorted by level.

After lunch the classroom moves outdoors: ordering bubble tea, calligraphy with traditional characters, temple visits, KTV in Chinese, beach trips and night market food hunts.

Every activity is designed to use the morning’s Mandarin in the real world.

Is Taipei safe for teenagers travelling alone?

Absolutely!! Taipei regularly tops safety rankings and is considered one of the safest destinations anywhere for young travellers, with virtually no street crime and superb healthcare.

Campers are met at the airport and supervised by LTL leaders throughout, and staff are reachable around the clock for parents’ peace of mind.

When should we book summer camp Taipei?

The Taipei summer camp run from the beginning of June through to mid-August.

Taipei places are limited by design, as we keep groups small.

July typically fills by April/May, so booking four to six months ahead is the safe play.

Flexible start dates mean you can build camp around family holidays rather than the other way round.
